It's related to X and it has been much improved since Etch. It would
be nice if you could try to install Lenny and see if it works out of
box for you.
I'm reassiging this bug to xserver-xorg package so X Strike Force
people can work with you to properly identify if this can be improved
for Lenny (if it doesn't work).
