There's nothing really we can do about this in the installer until the kernel is updated to a version that _does_ recognize/support your controller. We should be updating to a 2.6.24 kernel within a few weeks, so you may want to try again then. You can also try installing Etch using the unofficial images from Kenshi Muto [1], which already use a 2.6.24 kernel.
