From the syslog it very much looks as if the CD was not burned correctly. Here your CD drive is recognized: Feb 4 15:11:05 kernel: Probing IDE interface ide1... Feb 4 15:11:06 kernel: hdc: CD-220EA, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive I can see that it is successfully mounted and that a number of files are read correctly from the CD, but then you get these errors: Feb 4 15:12:30 kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Feb 4 15:12:30 kernel: hdc: rw=0, want=836672, limit=359920 Feb 4 15:12:30 kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 209167 I'm afraid I cannot offer may suggestions on how to burn a CD correctly from Windows. Only thing I can do is point you to http://www.debian.org/CD/faq/. One thing you can do though is to do an integrity check near the beginning of the installation. Boot the installer with 'install priority=medium'. You'll get a menu. First choose your language and keyboard. Then select the menu option "Check the CD-ROM(s) integrity". As long as that does not complete successfully, your CD is not good and the installation will fail at some point. Other option is of course that you have a hardware issue, but that's unlikely if the drive works fine under Windows. Note that sometimes the problem is just low-quality CDs. Cheers, FJP
