I just tried to strip the Abyssinica_SIL.ttf font, re-using the
freefont strip scripts and adding a range for latin:

ranges="$ranges u0021:u02AF" # latin

(note that this excludes all punctuation, parentheses, etc.)

That gives the following result:

rw-rw-r-- 1 bubulle bubulle 619012 2006-05-19 15:15 Abyssinica_SIL.ttf
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bubulle bubulle 383768 2008-01-07 18:55
TTF-stripped/Abyssinica_SIL.ttf

The udeb size goes from 220768 bytes to 183090 bytes
