The most likely cause is that you have multiple NICs in your system and the order in which they are recognized is different after reboot then it was during installation. Basically you should check your udev configuration files for networking, in particular (the first is generated by the second): z25_persistent-net.rules z45_persistent-net-generator.rules My guess is what is defined in the first file as eth0 does not match what the installer wrote in /etc/network/interfaces. I thought we had that covered before Etch, but recently a change was included in the daily images for Lenny which should resolve any remaining issues. It would be great if you could test that.
