Package: installation-reports

Boot method: CD
Image version: i386 netinstall etch release candidate 2 from 2/22/07 and from 3/19/07 8:50 Machine: Dell Optiplex 745, Pentium D 2.8 GHz processor, hardware clock set to local time in the BIOS.
Comments/Problems:
Installed in expert mode.
The installation seemed to go fine and the machine rebooted OK. With both versions of the installer, even though I had chosen UTC NO in clock setup during installation, 'date' did not give the correct time and was off by our UTC offset. In looking at files, /etc/adjtime contained the line UTC while /etc/default/rcS contained the line UTC=no (which seems contradictory). Other than /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh, I could find no other instances of UTC/utc in any /etc files. As POST messages scrolled by, about the time the system clock was being set, I did see something about the clock timing out but could not find any message in either dmesg output or /var/log/* relating to that.
If I set the clock to UTC in the BIOS, then the 'date' time was
correct. Because I will be installing Debian dual boot with Windows on
some machines, I will want the clock set to local time in the BIOS.
Windows was not installed while I was testing the Debian install on this
machine.

Description:
clock-setup - set up clock (udeb)
Closes: 415871
Changes:
 clock-setup (0.15) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Also change the UTC/LOCAL setting in /etc/adjtime. This will hopefully
rid us of the incidental reports of a wrong clock setting after the first
reboot. Thanks to Karen Larson for pointing us in the right direction.
