Unfortunately, it wasn't the above that fixed it for me, it was "d-i partman-auto-lvm/new_vg_name string vg00" (I'm using etch by the way, forgot to mention that earlier) but for others with the same problem, you may also like to try: d-i partman-lvm2/vgcreate_name string vg00 Thanks again and I hope the other information will be useful to someone.
