Ah, that way. I didn't know anything of the internals of LVM, and I somehow assumed that the disk would not be partitioned in advance, but first LVM volumes would be created. Well, I've learned that now (and just resized my volumes appropriately); maybe a sentence like yours above could be added to the online help in partman.
