Hello Phill, Seems you got an interresting challange with your hardware and d-i. It does intrige me. I would love to debug it, but I lack the hardware (and the time :-) Thing where I would start, is adding several set +x statements in the udev scripts. You don't need to rebuild the installer for that. Switch to the VT2 console and open there a shell. Change the proper directory[1] and modify the scripts with the editor 'nano' The extra output will also be in the syslog file. I'm looking forward to your follow-up.
