Grub fails to install on AMD64, when I check the virtual console the

Starting a shell and using "chroot /target apt-get install grub" works
fine. After that, using the installer grub will install.
Just for your information.
I've just done an installation on AMD64 myself with no errors at all. Grub
installed fine.
So unless you can provide the additional information I requested, I think
we'll have to close this report.

Thank you for the follow-up. Unfortunately, I've put those servers to
use and I cannot repeat my installation at this time. Feel free to
close out this report. I plan to try turning on the trace some time in
the future when I have the need to do another install.
One thing that makes these systems different is the amount of hard disk
space. It is a RAID 5 array (using 3w-9xxx driver) and was initially
2500 GB, I found that grub-install would not work at all (apparently a
known problem), so I adjusted the array to be 1800 GB and I was able to
get the grub-install to work. I suspect this should not effect the
'apt-get install grub' portion of the Debian installation, so just an FYI.
