Package: installation-report Severity: important
Trying to install Etch with the daily netinst CDs on a Dell X200 problems with all install modes: - Cannot select British English and a Dvorak keyboard layout (either standard or converted to British layout). Ubuntu has a 'type some keys to guess the layout' option which is nice, but being able to select it in at least expert mode would be good - Does not detect a firewire CDROM drive. Even when selecting the sbpcd module by hand from the list, modprobe fails. problems with gui mode specifically: - When suggesting changing to a console to check the cdrom device it instructs the user to press "Ctrl-F2", which does not work. Instead the user should press "Alt-Ctrl-F2" when in GUI mode. Since this works in either mode it could be replaced in the installer as a whole, if this is easier. problems with text-mode specifically: - Installer selects an inappropriate framebuffer mode which is almost unusable (screen flashes at a high rate, lines offset vertically, etc). Specifying a non-framebuffer vga mode on the kernel command line does not help, since the framebuffer is initialised later in userspace. I didn't succeed in getting any further, if I manage to work around the lack of CD support, I'll submit a further report.
