Dear maintainers, there is something I always wonder about withe the installer:
As it is as usual daily build with daily snapshots, there is no reason IMO that it containes always an old kernel. The installer should have the latest stable kernel, as the installation kernel must support most hardware at installation. For example: I could not install Debian on a Tosiba Tecra A7 (etch) as its cdrom-controller (sata) was not suported in installation kernel 2.6.8. But its was supported in kernel 2.6.18 ! So I had to install on another machine, then build a new kernel, and then rsync the installation machine to Tecra A7 using kanotix and rsync. This is IMO a great disadvantage and prevents many people from using Debian. Another case: On another machine, the graphical installer could not be used because of the same reason: the installation kernel 2.6.8 does not support Intel graphic card "I810" (Xorg does). This is my feedback.... :) Thank you for all your work !!! Very best regards Hans -- Hans-J.
