The installer load the driver for the HBA but it doesn't detect the volume. When I switch to an alternate console with Alt F2, I get the following message in /var/log/syslog: qla2xxx: firmware image unavailable. The directory /lib/modules/2.6.16-2-486/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/ contains only qla2xxx.ko. When I'm doing the same test with Ubuntu 6.06, this directory contains qla2100.ko, qla2200.ko, qla2300.ko, qla2322.ko, qla2xxx.ko and qla6312.ko. With Ubuntu, the installation works fine.
