As discussed with Otavio on IRC, this seems to be a bug in libparted. I will see if I can provide a test script that demonstrates the case. I am cloning this BR rather than reassigning it because it looks like there may be other issues as well: - start sector of partitions may change even when not resizing (see: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/parted/+bug/32529) - even if I correct the physical partition and ntfsresize runs well after that, Windows Vista still refuses to boot
