Hi, I'm trying to build a custom sarge install CD using simple-cdd which is working nicely. Now I want to replace the kernel package installed by the base-installer with a custom built 2.6.8 kernel. If install this custom kernel package over the one in sarge after the CD install, it installs fine and reboots fine.
But if I replace the kernel in the installer CD (I made some minor modifications in debian-cd to do so), it starts installing the kernel but fails. (Note that I'm replacing the kernel installed by base-installer and not the d-i kernel). Here are the messages I see in /var/log/messages: Setting up kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386mine (2.6.8-16sarge1) ... depmod: /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386mine/modules.alias is not an ELF file depmod: /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386mine/modules.ccwmap is not an ELF file ... depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acio.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/powernow-k7.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/powernow-k8.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/crypto/... depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/block/paride/* depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/char/agp/*.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/*.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/char/*.ko depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/ipmi/busses/* depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/i2c/chips/* depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.8-386mine/kernel/drivers/ide/* ... There was a problem running depmod. This may be benign, .... depmod exited with return value 1 ---------------------------------------------------------- But after the failure and the installer stopped, if I do something like the following, it passes without error. # depmod -a -b /target 2.6.8-2-386mine Also I tried the following: # chroot /target dpkg --purge kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386mine # apt-install kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386mine This reinstalled the kernel-image fine without error, and modules.dep was created without complaints. Contents of /target/etc/kernel-img.conf (which seems relevant) is: --- do_symlinks = yes relative_links = yes do_bootloader = no do_bootfloppy = no do_initrd = yes link_in_boot = no ---- What could be the cause of error during the installation and how can I troubleshoot it? I would appreciate your help. Hiroto -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
