Actually, it seems that the netinst and businesscard daily build isos are broken on powerpc since april 1, which is supposedly when i was replaced as d-i powerpc maintainer or something. This would explain why you don't have more recent kernels in there. I would thus suggest that you use a powerpc64 netboot d-i image, either the mini-iso or simply copy the whole images + yaboot config to a tftp servers somewhere and boot them.
