The fact that it tries to use a network mirror and a workaround for that is now documented in the errata for the Beta2 release [1]. Your problem is not that an online repository is required but that it fails somehow to read your CD. We've had several reports of this, but no one has yet taken the trouble to help us find out where the real problem is. Can you please do the following. - do a new install - proceed to partitioning - while you are there: - switch to VT2 (using alt-F2) - use nano to edit the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/base-installer.postinst and add a line 'set -x' below the first line - switch back to VT2 (using alt-F1) - continue the installation until the error happens - send us the /var/log/syslog file (gzipped!) You can probably use the "Save debug logs" option from the main menu to save the syslog file.
