Have tried again with install using Netinst.iso built on 07/01/05.
The problem with not detecting the CD-ROM after setting the locale was still there.
I upgrade the Dell Dimention L800r system BIOS from A09 to A14. This didn't help.
I then booted using 'linux26'. When the first question appeared (Country I believe) I hit ctrl-alt-F2.
I then typed at the console 'modprobe ide-core options="hdc=nodma"' the returned to the installer on F1. Again the CD-ROM was not detected.
I then again booted using 'linux26'. When the first question appeared (Country I believe) I hit ctrl-alt-F2.
I then typed at the console 'modprobe ide-core options="ide=nodma"' the returned to the installer on F1. This time the CD-ROM was detected and the installation completed with no further issues.
Once the install was complete I couldn't mount the CD-ROM until I disabled dma on hdc using hdparm.
