I put old 2GB Seagate ATA HD in the box, retaining SATA drive but setting BIOS to boot off old ATA drive. I also disabled onboard LAN and chucked an old RealTek PCI card in as well, coz I was having probs with the onboard network driver. Installed base system from sid-amd64-netinst.iso. did # aptitude dist-upgrade. This installed a new 2.6.9 kernel and other stuff. did # aptitude install gnome-desktop # aptitude install gdm Could not install x-window-system at first so I did another # aptitude dist-upgrade # aptitude install x-window-system Now I have a working Desktop. I have installed a few packages like evolution, mozilla-firefox, gimp, inkscape, gftp and most seems to be ok so far. USB camera is working. Epiphany is crashing but I will Google on that. I can ping the other Debian system on the network. df -h shows the exported directory from the other machine. pan64:~# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda1 1.8G 1.2G 485M 72% / tmpfs 500M 0 500M 0% /dev/shm pan:/home/norv 2.9G 2.2G 512M 82% /home/norv I have a basic Desktop (no sound or dvd playback yet) and I can email, browse the net, download photos from my camera, edit text and graphic files etc. There is 485MB to spare on the IDE drive. The SATA drive has not been recognised at all. I hope this install gives me a chance to get the SATA driver sorted and reinstall onto the big 80GB SATA disk. A big thank you to all Debian developers and especially those involved with this release. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
