Interesting. I was able to create my volume group, logical volumes, etc., with no hassle on 2.4.27, but some partitioning issues prevented second stage from booting. My point is that LVM seems to be fully functional here in the aspects that you pointed out; what steps did you take to get it to trip on missing a 'striping' module? (Which doesn't even exist on i386, AFAICS.)
