I'm not familiar with any code in hw-detect that would do that for any module. hw-detect does not save state between runs, aside from the state of what modules are already loaded. I think you're mistaken here, this is general hw-detect idempotent behavior. The only special case for floppies in hw-detect is that since loading the module often fails (if there is no floppy drive), it does not display an error message if loading this particular module fails. As with any module that failed to load, it will be tried again on the next hw-detect run. -- see shy jo
