Package: installation-reports Debian-installer-version: the one on the sarge pre-rc2-businesscard cd Date: 2004-11-22 Method: Booted from sarge pre-rc2-businesscard cd
Machine: Sony VAIO S2HP Processor: Intel Pentium M 725 Memory: 1 GB Root Device: IDE Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [E] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [E] Reboot: [O] Comments/Problems: 1. Problem with DHCP/DNS The DHCP client did sort of work, and a success message was displayed. However, adding a debian mirror failed. It looked like a name resolving problem, but I'm not sure on that. (The output of "route -n" run on the second console looked all right, showing one default route.) Also, no domain was suggested when configuring the machine's name, although one should have been received via DHCP. Both problems disappeared when I convinced the DHCP server (tried with both testing "dhcp" package and stable "dhcp3-server") to hand out only one default router address. 2. Not showing recovery partitions in grub's menu list There's an NTFS partition on the disk which contains a recovery system. There's also WindowsXP preinstalled in a second partition. The installer apparently saw both partitions and added two entries to grub's boot menu. Both are called "Windows NT/2000/XP", and if I pick the top one, the recovery system starts... The visible and obvious difference between the two partitions is that the one with the recovery system is not marked as bootable. I guess there might be a way to only show Windows installations which are marked as bootable in the list? Thanks for the great work! Cheers, Marcus -- Marcus C.
