Debian's partman (partition manager) uses (lib)parted, just like Fedora does. However, the CHS is supposed to be fixed for some time now. It looks like maybe the "history" of your disk somehow managed to confuse parted after all. The only thing I can think of at the moment is to ask you to repeat the installation (maybe you can create a small partition for testing) and see if it can be reproduced. Make sure you save a dump of the partition table _before_ the installation for comparison. Also save the logs of the installation. After you've finished and if the problem repeats, please file an installation report [1] so we can have a look. Make sure you include a dump of the partition table before and after the install (and before you fix the problem). Also include the version of libparted1.6-udeb that was installed. You can get that from VT2 by looking in the status file for dpkg using: nano /var/lib/dpkg/status Search for libparted using ctrl-W.
