Yeck !! This is wrong (bad cut and paste). Those installations were with 2.6 and expert2.6 aka kernel 2.6.8-1.
This problem is still present with http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/i386/20041113/sarge-i386-netinst.iso
Booting with linux26 : can not find the cdrom
booting with expert26 : not loading ata_piix gives the cdrom but I dont have access to the disk later even with ata_piix loaded.
