While I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, I finally had got used to the things one needed to do to re-write the partition table. With the new installer, I found it a little difficult to understand, it wasn't nearly so clear as the old way, though the fact that it was fully automated did mean that I could just act like a newb and do it that way, I just wish the old way was better flagged. I chose the desktop machine option, but that was ultimately wrong - the computer is for an internet gateway firewall...so I have the home partition away from the root partition, which is nice, but I'd have prefered to put /var/ on the (now huge @ 15Gb) hda6 because logging is more important...I mean, because it's a gateway/firewall, there's very little need for 15 Gb of /home, but nor do I want all my volatile stuff on /, you know what I mean?, I'll just move /var myself, but maybe that could be an option - "minimal install/firewall/gateway machine, not many users....of course, I didn't do heaps of playing around either to see if the options I wanted were in there - I do more than this and am really busy at the moment, so I wanted it to go as quickly as possible....btw - thanks for the great software, I really love you ppl, yr software, and yr social contract> --- Lachlan Simpson, National Database & IT Support Officer National Office The Wilderness Society Inc.
