Package: debian-installer Severity: normal
I installed from the debian-installer CD-ROM downloaded today. It recognised the disks in this machine and installed fine. But when it came to reboot it failed in the initrd with the following error: sym53c8xx: at PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0 sym53c8xx: not initializing, device not supported /lib/modules/2.4.27-1-generic/kernel/drivers/scsi/sym53c8xx.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the outpSCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00 ut from dmesg /lib/modules/2.4.27-1-generic/kernel/drivers/scsi/sym53c8xx.o: insmod sym53c8xx failed Journalled Block Device driver loaded pivot_root: No sKernel panic: Attempted to kill init! uch file or dire ctory /sbin/init: 426: cannot open dev/console: No such file It looks like the wrong SCSI module is being loaded. I'm not sure which one it's supposed to be but it might be the similarly named ncr one - I can do more investigation on this if you need to know for sure. But the installer seemed to find the right one when it was soing its stuff so someone knows which one was needed :-) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
