No splash screen... in fact no ID at all,Installer version date found on floppy images on CD 1. On Detect CD following error "modules sym8xxx not availible",infact modules is present. Changed to 2nd console loaded module with "modprobe sym8xxx",at present not sure of exact module name. Modules loaded OK. Retried "Detect CD" stacks of error messages from various ide chipset modules and CD detected OK. Loaded 2 modules, to fast to see what they were, Only menu Items were verify CD and execute shell and reboot. Therefore not able to continue Install. Verify CD did nothing. I really really really would like to have control over what hardware was probe for.... there is a menu for this but it does not work. I have an other box which has a Gigabyte 6BXDU motherboard an this consistantly has failed on ALL auto hardware probes from various Linux distros on the AIC7xxx module. This not good as I cannot easily load linux (except Slackware) on it. I have been using linux for 10 and a bit years and debian since well before 1.0 (On cd's not having a wide band internet connection) while boot-floppy's install was not particularly easy it was EXTREMLY flexible. I have seen various versions of the current installer and my impression is that in an effort to make it easy flexibilty is being sacrificed. I would consider it a great tragedy that in order to make a "11 click" install (debian weekly news) that you could only install debian (or infact any linux distro) on 95% of computors. Any further info required drop me a line.
