This is correct, there is no bootloader message at all. Right at the point where the bootloader should 'jump in', it hangs. And, regarding the SATA modules (sata_sil, sata_sis), the promise-sata module is present and loaded. This doesn't seem to be the specific problem (?).
One of the advices I received was to disable ACPI (in either the BIOS or during boot in the OS) prior to installation. I haven't had the time to try this (yet). If anyone has some ideas, please share them :).
