Yes. You are correct. (Somehow I thought pop-up mesage said ochi1394 and I took note but as I double checked now, I must have been dreaming...) As you ponted out this seems kernel problem. Moreover, it seems this is a specific problem on 2.4 kernel. I do not see this problem booting with kernel 2.6 using expert26. The same was the case on my installed system with 2.4 and 2.6 kernels.
