With the daily =66rom 20040812, I was able to get all the way to the installation of the bootloader (aboot, since this is on an Alpha), which gave me this message: An installation step failed. You can try to run the failing item again from the menu, or skip it and choose something else. The failing step is: Install aboot on a hard disk I noticed that it appeared to be trying to install aboot to "/dev/rd/c0d0p". If I remember swriteboot's usage, it should perhaps be using /dev/rd/c0d0. Otherwise, it needs a partition number after the p. I chroot'd into /target and manually did an swriteboot / abootconf invocation: cd /boot swriteboot -f1 /dev/rd/c0d0 bootlx abootconf /dev/rd/c0d0 3=20 but then noticed that my /etc/aboot.conf wasn't going to be much help (not sure if this would have been corrected had the aboot installation completed, or not). It was: 0:3/vmlinux.gz ro root=3D/dev/sda2 1:3/vmlinux.old.gz ro root=3D/dev/sda2 2:3/vmlinux.new.gz ro root=3D/dev/sda2 3:3/vmlinux ro root=3D/dev/sda2 I continued the installation without the boot loader, rebooted, and =66rom SRM loaded up aboot in interactive mode. From there, I did: aboot> p 2 aboot> i /initrd.img-2.4.26-1-generic aboot> b 2/vmlinuz-2.4.26-1-generic ro root=3D/dev/rd/c0d0p3 console=3DttyS0 This got me booted up and into my shiny new Sarge installation and a run of base-config. --=20 Nathan Poznick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I won't mention any names, because I don't want to get sun4's into trouble... :-) -- Larry Wall --7AUc2qLy4jB3hD7Z Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: Digital signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBHS78YOn9JTETs+URAkluAJ9YZg410XcqoBE4/w/jzFxyp1Wn2ACeOEqp uzH4G1MfZBCF5qYT8UTVUx8= =DmwT -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --7AUc2qLy4jB3hD7Z-- --------------------------------------- Received: (at 265597-close) by bugs.debian.org; 23 Aug 2004 08:08:22 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Aug 23 01:08:22 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1Bz9sM-0006bD-00; Mon, 23 Aug 2004 01:08:22 -0700 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1Bz9mF-00046T-00; Mon, 23 Aug 2004 04:02:03 -0400 From: Steve Langasek <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.51 $ Subject: Bug#265597: fixed in aboot-installer 0.0.16 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, 23 Aug 2004 04:02:03 -0400 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: Source: aboot-installer Source-Version: 0.0.16 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of aboot-installer, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: aboot-installer_0.0.16.dsc to pool/main/a/aboot-installer/aboot-installer_0.0.16.dsc aboot-installer_0.0.16.tar.gz to pool/main/a/aboot-installer/aboot-installer_0.0.16.tar.gz aboot-installer_0.0.16_alpha.udeb to pool/main/a/aboot-installer/aboot-installer_0.0.16_alpha.udeb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
