I moved the DVD-ROM to the other IDE-channel - it seems that this makes the problem disappear without the need to disable dsc_overlap. I'm not 100% sure about these workarounds, because the problem occurs only 90% of the time and I tried only one additional installation.
The new configuration was: Mainboard: Tyan S1590S Trinity 100AT Chipset: VIA MVP3 (82C5xx) CPU: AMD K6-II / 500 MHz IDE HD (WDC WD450AA-00BAA0) on hda (installation target) IDE DVD-ROM (Asus E616) on hdc (installtion source) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
