Variously. Tried 2.6.4-1.i686 which downloaded but there were problems loading pcmcia modules for this kernel version. This is a PC not inn need of PCMCIA. Rebooted. tried to install 2.6.4-1.i386. Seemed to work except that it just decided to download/install 2.4.24 instead. Chose normal install. Chose to just boot to base system, not choosing extra packages during install. At root prompt ran apt-get install kde Went off and did its stuff including downloading xfree86 but nothing configured. Rather than attempting to configure. Running install again using tasksel desktop environment. This completed successfully and workstation very pleasant. Summary : Switching from defaults in install seems to break it. I particularly wanted to install 2.6.x kernel Thanks for a great distribution Richard --------------------------------------- Received: (at 240367-done) by bugs.debian.org; 29 Jul 2004 21:16:51 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jul 29 14:16:50 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from cpe.atm0-0-0-2421032.0x3ef2dbfa.arcnxx7.customer.tele.dk (host.kl-teknik.com) [62.242.219.250] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BqIGg-0001zv-00; Thu, 29 Jul 2004 14:16:50 -0700 Received: from mail.thepenguininvasion.dk (0x5358aaae.abnxx12.adsl-dhcp.tele.dk [::ffff:83.88.170.174]) (AUTH: PLAIN [EMAIL PROTECTED]) by host.kl-teknik.com with esmtp; Thu, 29 Jul 2004 23:21:48 +0200 id 0003A5F4.41096A6C.000068BE From: Frederik Dannemare <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#240367: various problems Date: Thu, 29 Jul 2004 23:17:42 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: =2D----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 On Thursday 29 July 2004 02:10, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Ran installation as follows... > > netinst.iso > linux26 > reiserfs min installation. Hopefully, if we ship with a=20 newer 2.6 kernel in the final Sarge release, it will work for you. I'll=20 close this report now.
