Just an update, with the daily d-i image from 20040724, this still
occurs. However, the installer is using:

Linux version 2.4.26-1-generic ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 3.2.3
    20030221 (Debian prerelease)) #2 Sat May 1 16:31:16 EST 2004

The thread at http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2004/07/msg01955.html
indicates that Horms applied the PCI fix and uploaded kernel-source-2.4.26
package, version 2.4.26-4. That is in unstable now, but a new version
of the kernel-image hasn't been yet built for alpha.
