The kernel config file should be in /boot and for the installation I just did it _is_ installed (/boot/config-2.6.7-1-686). You'll have to tell us which kernel you installed before we can look into this. Please tell us what architecture you are installing on and provide the output of 'uname -a' and 'dpkg -l kernel*'. Also, please tell us what installation method you used, from where you got debian-installer and the version you used.
