After rebooting with the 2.6 kernel, the ide-cd module loads, but I still get some "hdc:lost interrupt" and "ide-cd: cmd 0x28 timed out" messages and the CD-ROM drive works very slowly (slow to mount, slow to run 'find', slow to eject using the 'eject' command). I noticed in the boot messages and in /proc/interrupts that both ide0 and ide1 are using IRQ 14 instead of one using 14 and the other using 15 like what happens with 2.4. Could this be the problem?
Do you mean to upgrade the kernel to 2.6 or to try to reinstall Sarge using the linux26 option?
No, you can simply install the 2.6 kernel package after completing the installation.
I still need to figure out how to complete the installation with 2.4. It has a PCMCIA wireless LAN card (a Linksys WPC11) that I need to figure out how to get the installer to recognize.
Ah, okay. I don't know anything about this card, sorry.
By the way, under 2.6 the IDE controller is identified as a Cyrix 5520 in the boot messages and under 2.4 there is no special mention of the IDE controller in the boot messages. It might be using a generic IDE driver under 2.4.
In addition, the network setup that I had working with 2.4 no longer works with 2.6. I get errors with trying to load module memory_cs, which doesn't exist. It looks like it is now trying to identify my wireless LAN card as a memory card.
