Your guess is right. Try with businesscard images.

You should have an
option for configuring PPP in base-config at 2nd stage (this is why we
included that damn pppconfig thing int translation statistics....).
   

ah. i didn't get that far. so i can't install the base system via
ppp?

I wrote a tutorial on installing via PPPoE today. It's not 100% 
complete yet but it has details all the way up to configuring PPPoE to 
connect to the internet.
