Machine: Digital Server 4000 - family Rawhide Processor: 4 Memory: ~ 800 Mb Root Device: SCSI Maverick hard disc Root Size/partition table: 520mb from the end of a 540 mb scsi drive Output of lspci and lspci -n: Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Choose Keyboard: [E] 1) Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [E] 2) Install boot loader: [] Reboot: [] this is same machine as #253032 *) 1) the daily build didn't let me choose my keyboard at DEBCONF_PRIORITY=medium after the coutry selection. had an english keyboard (same as language) but needed german. 2) after choosing the kernel base-install fails after 81% initial choosen kernel-image-2.4.26-1-smp reproduced with kernel-image-2.6.6-1-smp on a clean base target vc1 gets the known error message "Installation step failed", initrd-tools were downloaded as well ash as a cramfs package but the kernel not, verified by a ls /target/boot the last thing that is done is "setting up initrd tools" syslog shows a main-menu with 100% a Connection to ftp.at.debian.org[ip]:80 (the mirror i chose) and then a user.warn main-menu WARNING **: Configuring "base-installer failed with error code 1 i retried with netinst.iso from aboves link, and a bit different paritioning scheme 470mb from the end for /, 40 mb in the middle for /boot and 30mb free at the beginning of the disc. always used ext2 fs. sorry that the error message is not more meanfull, hope vorlon that aboves still helps to nail that down. strange happened when passing "console=tty console=ttyS0" as bootargs from aboot, did get no serial console, but when doing "console=tty console=ttyS0,9600" i got the serial line, but no tty. a++ maks *) i will close that bug report as the failures from tc1 are corrected, inbetween thanks vorlon!
