That is why the four steps marked with an E went wrong (and occasionally not). Now, the real problem i like to point out is a binary missing: badblocks. In situations where you're not sure about the quality of the harddisk (as this), the less newbie (more advanced) user will need this utility. I also think that there should be an option in the partitioning program to turn on badblocks-checking in the formatting proces (mkfs -c). One way of implementing this would be by adding an option/line to the partition-specific screen: 'Check for bad blocks' with options 'yes' and 'no'.
