My institution does not use WEP, but does use an SSID. This causes a problem, because the installer asks for the WEP key, then tries DHCP, but does not ask for the SSID unless you go back to the main menu and choose "configure network" *twice*. Details: -------------------- ***this fails: Choose a language: english-us Select a keyboard layout: american english Detecting hardware Loading components of Debian installer Detecting Hardware Configure the network WEP key for eth0: none (continue) Configuring the network with DHCP (fails) retry? no (continue) Configure the network IP address: (dead end) go back menu->configure the network WEP key for eth0: none (continue) Network configuration method: DHCP (continue) Configuring the network with DHCP (fails) retry? no Configure the network IP address: (dead end) ***this works: Choose a language: english-us Select a keyboard layout: american english Detecting hardware Loading components of debian installer Detecting hardware Configure the network WEP key for eth0: go back menu->choose: configure the network WEP key for eth0: go back menu->choose: configure the network Wireless ESSID for eth0: (entered correctly) Configure the network WEP key for eth0: none (continue) Configure the network Network configuration method: DHCP Configure the network DHCP hostname: none (continue) Configuring the network with DHCP Configure the network: hostname: debian32 successfully connects to network... menu->continues with detect hardware (note that in the first example, if I go back to "Configure the network" for a third time, it *will* ask for the Wireless ESSID, and then succeed) -------------------- card used: Netgear 802.11b Wireless PC Card 16-bit PCMCIA Model MA401 (known good in this machine per current Knoppix HD installation) -------------------- I didn't have time to complete the installation. I don't understand why the installer *does* ask for the SSID before the WEP key, but only on the third try. I suspect a small problem with the sequencing logic. -------------------- Hope this helps; keep up the great work! -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Search Smarter - get the new eXact Search Bar for free! http://www.exactsearchbar.com/ --------------------------------------- Received: (at 243563-close) by bugs.debian.org; 19 Apr 2004 18:08:32 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Apr 19 11:08:32 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BFdC4-0002TW-00; Mon, 19 Apr 2004 11:08:32 -0700 Received: from troup by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BFd5b-0004NC-00; Mon, 19 Apr 2004 14:01:51 -0400 From: Joey Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: lisa $Revision: 1.30 $ Subject: Bug#243563: fixed in debian-installer 20040417 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: James Troup <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 14:01:51 -0400 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-2.3 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER, SUBJ_HAS_UNIQ_ID autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: X-CrossAssassin-Score: 5 Source: debian-installer Source-Version: 20040417 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of debian-installer, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: debian-installer-manual_20040417_i386.deb to pool/main/d/debian-installer/debian-installer-manual_20040417_i386.deb debian-installer_20040417.dsc to pool/main/d/debian-installer/debian-installer_20040417.dsc debian-installer_20040417.tar.gz to pool/main/d/debian-installer/debian-installer_20040417.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. So far for i386 only. - Also added 2.6 versions of the cdrom targets, though the el-torito one is out of space and disabled. * Martin Michlmayr - Add a netboot image for MIPS based Cobalt machines. - Use 2.4.25 kernels for mips and mipsel. * Joshua Kwan - Add all sorts of sparc/sparc64 floppy support, with a net-drivers disk for sparc64. - Add cdrom-core-modules dependency for cdrom/sparc.cfg, but only for sparc64. Hardcode it in because we don't support ${kernel:Version} in package names that aren't always available on one of the architectures being built for. (Closes: #242343, #239136, #239887, #240577) * Bastian Blank - Respect EXTRANAME in kernel installation. (closes: #244209) - Add s390 to build/choose-subarch-env. - Use make magic to pull that script in. * Per Olofsson - Don't do PCMCIA config reduction as it doesn't take enough modules into account. Closes: #243563. * Stephen R Marenka - Fix FTBFS on m68k.
