Comments/Problems:
During installation with the debian installer the network card has been identified correctly as I was able to retrieve the packages from the selected mirror.
After the system has been rebooted at the end of the installation the network card has not been detected anymore.
Doing a
modprobe 3c59x
made the network work. I manually added the module name to /etc/modules
to make it work on the next boot. I think the installer should insert the detected module into the modules file.
