I ended up with a working system. There were no entries in fstab for cdrom and floppy, but that is known erro= r. ISSUE 1 - base-installer Main problem is wrong selection of kernel. Install base system selected 2.4.25-1-386, this should be 2.4.25-1-686. =46rom 'cat /proc/cpuinfo': processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 8 model name : Pentium III (Coppermine) stepping : 6 cpu MHz : 1000.037 ISSUE 2 - kbd-chooser What is the sort order in the list for Keyboard selection? I could detect no logic at all. ISSUE 3 - Hardware detection After Detect and mount CDROM I was given a list of modules that would be te= sted. As I knew a lot of them were irrelevant for my system, I deselected them. This had the unexpected effect that during subsequent Hardware detections, I got 'red screens' with the message "Error while running 'modprobe -v <modul= e>'". I think manually deselected modules should not be probed in later detection= s. If I do not deselect any modules, these errors do not appear. ISSUE 4 - Partition disks (partman) I have a swap partition on both my harddisks. By default they are both sele= cted. This is apparently shown by the smiley, but I think it would be a lot clear= er if also 'SWAP' would be shown as mountpoint (at the end of the line). Maybe there could be a summary of just partitions to be formatted/mounted before the final confirmation. (We also need to list the meaning of the smileys in the manual.) ISSUE 5 - 2nd stage apt configuration: choose mirror country As default the country United states was shown (probably based on en_US), b= ut I chose Netherlands as country in 1st stage. Can't the installation process 'remember' this? ISSUE 6 - Default packages Why are pppoe, pppoeconfig and ipchains selected by default? The first two = I can somewhat understand, but ipchains is obsolete. Also, in Woody the installer would detect that my box did not have PCMCIA a= nd offer to remove the packages. I'd like this back! I hate stupid errors during boo= t. ISSUE 7 - Errors during installation of console packages I got the following errors during the installation of console-common and -d= ata. I have no idea where the come from. I selected PC-style/American English in kbd-chooser. < SNIP from package installation START > Setting up console-common (0.7.37) Looking for keymap to install: speakup KDSKBENT: Invalid argument =46ailed to bind key 55 to value 1030 Loading /etc/console/boottime.keymap.gz Loadkeys: warning: this map uses Unicode symbols (perhaps you want to do 'kbd_mode -u'?) Loading /etc/console/boottime.keymap.gz Loadkeys: warning: this map uses Unicode symbols (perhaps you want to do 'kbd_mode -u'?) Exim configuration for Woody used to ask if you wanted to setup an alias for root (so mail for root would be forwarded to a normal user). In exim4, if no alias is created, mail for root gets routed to /var/mail/mail and so will never be seen by a normal user. Not even root cat read his own mail!!!! There is even a warning about this in /usr/share/doc/exim4/README.Debian.gz. Setting up a mail-alias for root should be included in debconf with priority HIGH. Currently (for both testing and unstable) this is not supported. --------------------------------------- Received: (at 237009-done) by bugs.debian.org; 12 Apr 2004 02:07:32 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Apr 11 19:07:32 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from kitenet.net [64.62.161.42] (postfix) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BCqrE-0001jl-00; Sun, 11 Apr 2004 19:07:32 -0700 Received: from dragon.kitenet.net (216-98-93-157.access.naxs.com [216.98.93.157]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "Joey Hess", Issuer "Joey Hess" (verified OK)) by kitenet.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD65418BC8; Mon, 12 Apr 2004 02:07:30 +0000 (GMT) Received: by dragon.kitenet.net (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 058B66F287; Sun, 11 Apr 2004 22:07:09 -0400 (EDT) Date: Sun, 11 Apr 2004 22:07:09 -0400 From: Joey Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: bug fixed Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="opJtzjQTFsWo+cga" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1+cvs20040105i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=3.1 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,SORTED_RECIPS, SUSPICIOUS_RECIPS autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: *** X-CrossAssassin-Score: 2 --opJtzjQTFsWo+cga Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable These bugs were fixed in a recent release of partman. --=20 see shy jo --opJtzjQTFsWo+cga Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: Digital signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAefnNd8HHehbQuO8RAjDvAKCBfZrjUuVE2KsUlDpDow5cY9wRCACgyMCz bAWOxynvj+cxmdeGYey1E10= =Wq8J -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --opJtzjQTFsWo+cga-- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
