Will a current /proc/partitions (ie after an install) do? I'm running the install kernel and I didn't actually change the partition table as there was already Linux + swap partitions on the disk from an ancient install. > I'd also like to see if the new partitioner (partman) handles this > better. I'll try to have a look, but it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I have time as I'm away over Easter. > > I initially tried with a SyQuest removable drive rather than the > > Conner drive as sdb, but when it didn't get listed I assumed it > > wasn't being detected. > Probably not, but if the kernel knows about it, then we can support > it. Can you find anything about it in dmesg? I think this was just the same bug as above with not showing sdb; the drive came up fine in dmesg and should just be a normal removable SCSI HD. > > All ok until I rebooted into the new system (used the same kernel as > > for install but told Penguin to pass root=/dev/sdb5): > > > > No /etc/fstab; or rather, an empty one. > I think I've been hearing about this bug lately on debian-boot.
