This resulted in the screen background turning red and a mis-rendered dialogue with no context and a message "Feel free to retry." This should be changed to at least mention that DHCP failed, and probably say something about connecting cables and/or consulting with system administrator about configuration. As it is there's no context: what exactly are you retrying? Every so often when I switch between consoles, my screen turns red (and then will turn blue again for no clear reason). Partitioning was not very well automated, as I was just dumped into pfdisk. Luckily I had previously partitioned this drive so I simply quit. Even so, some better method must exist. I had previously tried (and failed) to install debian-installer. As such I didn't reinitialize any disks. When the base system tried installing, I got an error "couldn't download exim4." I was unable to proceed. I then tried all over again, but this time I initialized the disk as ext3 (even though it was already initialized). This time the install worked. Comments on tasksel: It doesn't follow the UI of the rest of the installer (with the default button to the bottom right). It also seems overly fragile; it got confused when I pushed an arrow key and space bar at the same time, and quit (dropping down to apt(itude?) to grab the selected packages. The default debconf priority is medium, and no chance was given to me to raise it. I certainly don't think the default should be medium given the current debian-installer default of high or critical (or whatever it is). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux pisces 2.4.22 #4 Fri Sep 5 21:44:11 EDT 2003 i686 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US --------------------------------------- Received: (at 221533-close) by bugs.debian.org; 4 Apr 2004 06:08:05 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Apr 03 22:08:05 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BA0nc-0000SB-00; Sat, 03 Apr 2004 22:08:05 -0800 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BA0hm-0007xG-00; Sun, 04 Apr 2004 01:02:02 -0500 From: Joey Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.46 $ Subject: Bug#221533: fixed in ddetect 0.82 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sun, 04 Apr 2004 01:02:02 -0500 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: X-CrossAssassin-Scores: 1 Source: ddetect Source-Version: 0.82 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of ddetect, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: archdetect_0.82_i386.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/archdetect_0.82_i386.udeb ddetect_0.82.dsc to pool/main/d/ddetect/ddetect_0.82.dsc ddetect_0.82.tar.gz to pool/main/d/ddetect/ddetect_0.82.tar.gz ethdetect_0.82_all.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/ethdetect_0.82_all.udeb hw-detect-full_0.82_all.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/hw-detect-full_0.82_all.udeb hw-detect_0.82_all.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/hw-detect_0.82_all.udeb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
