Both failed during ide-floppy modprobing, as can be expected because the laptop lacks a floppy drive. To solve the problem, i tried disabling ide-floppy probing in expert mode. This time, the installer passed the first hardware detection phase. However, just before installing base system, the installer probes hardware again, and freezes upon probing ide-floppy. This probe occurs, even when not configuring the network. I could not disable ide-floppy for the second probing, that is to say, debian installer hardware detection does not seem to remember preferences from one test to the other. Debian-installer seems to probe hardware several times, and cannot be prevented from doing so. During first hardware detection phase in expert mode, debian-installer asks for parameters, but not in the following phases. When detecting hardware in expert mode, probing of a specific module cannot be canceled at parameter prompt. Installation could not be completed on the computer, even with cds known to be in working state after other installs. --------------------------------------- Received: (at 239172-close) by bugs.debian.org; 23 Mar 2004 17:09:33 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 23 09:09:33 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B5pPB-0001Dd-00; Tue, 23 Mar 2004 09:09:33 -0800 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B5pHv-00059o-00; Tue, 23 Mar 2004 12:02:03 -0500 From: Joey Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.45 $ Subject: Bug#239172: fixed in ddetect 0.78 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Tue, 23 Mar 2004 12:02:03 -0500 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 X-Spam-Level: Source: ddetect Source-Version: 0.78 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of ddetect, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: archdetect_0.78_i386.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/archdetect_0.78_i386.udeb ddetect_0.78.dsc to pool/main/d/ddetect/ddetect_0.78.dsc ddetect_0.78.tar.gz to pool/main/d/ddetect/ddetect_0.78.tar.gz ethdetect_0.78_all.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/ethdetect_0.78_all.udeb hw-detect-full_0.78_all.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/hw-detect-full_0.78_all.udeb hw-detect_0.78_all.udeb to pool/main/d/ddetect/hw-detect_0.78_all.udeb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
