Hess' daily build directory on 20040304. The floppies load up OK (by the way, the splash screen looks very professional, and is a nice way to initially confront the user). I did not need to specify any boot parameters (even though there is a recommendation to specify "floppy=thinkpad"). The installer is not able to recognize my ethernet card. I have an Etherlink III PCMCIA card. Normally this is recognized by Linux with the 3c589_cs module, but even if I choose that in the Network setup menu, it is not recognized. I also tried specifying "irq=9 io=0x300" on the parameter line (derived from a working Debian install), but that does not work either. I tried a number of other network modules (including "not listed"), but none of them worked. As an additional bit of information: I had earlier tried to use the semi-official installer floppy images from 20040204. These had no problem automatically detecting my PCMCIA network card, and I was able to download the full installer with them. (Unfortunately, I could not install the base system with them due to "Debootstrap Error Failed getting Releasefile http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian//dists//Release." even though it had earlier downloaded the installer!) Hope this information helps to improve the installer. -Mason _________________________________________________________________ Store more e-mails with MSN Hotmail Extra Storage – 4 plans to choose from! http://click.atdmt.com/AVE/go/onm00200362ave/direct/01/ --------------------------------------- Received: (at 236399-done) by bugs.debian.org; 16 Mar 2004 12:37:13 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 16 04:37:13 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from lml.bas.bg [195.96.224.121] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B3Don-000459-00; Tue, 16 Mar 2004 04:37:13 -0800 Received: from anton by lml.bas.bg with local (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 1B3Dth-0002pp-00 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Tue, 16 Mar 2004 14:42:17 +0200 Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2004 14:42:17 +0200 From: Anton Zinoviev <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#236399: Debian installer fails on Thinkpad 560x Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> User-Agent: Mutt/1.3.28i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 X-Spam-Level: Thanks a lot for your installation report.
