Take a look at bug #237169. Does this not look very similar to the
problems you've been having with kernel install on sparc? Since
debootstrap is run in a quite robust way and will display an error if it
fails, I suspect that this guy also ran into a crash somewhere in the
pick_kernel logic. And of course you're both using netboot, which means
in both cases it has more kernels to deal with than on a netinst CD
install. Interesting..
