the 2.6 kernel. and I'm confused about something.
I have kernel-image-2.6.0-1-686_2.6.0-2_i386.deb and I also have the kernel source from kernel.org. Which should I use, and how do I go about doing either.
I've tried dpkg -i kernel-image-2.6.0-1-686_2.6.0-2_i386.deb and get the following error.
/You are attempting to install an initrd kernel image (version 2.6.0-1-686)/ /but you do not seem to have a mkinitrd command in the path. This will/ /break the installation. I am aborting now./
/Could not find mkinitrd in path. at /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst line 183./ /dpkg: error processing kernel-image-2.6.0-1-686_2.6.0-2_i386.deb (--install):/ / subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1/ /Errors were encountered while processing:/ / kernel-image-2.6.0-1-686_2.6.0-2_i386.deb/
I this the best way or would compiling the kernel myself be the best way, I've run Xconfig and saved the kernel but now what do I do? Al l the information I have is based on 2.4 and the 2.6 info is very sketchy or it appears that way to me.
