I am installing on an dual PIII box (i.e. SMP) with aic7xxx SCSI and two via-rhine ethernet cards. This box currently runs Debian/stable. 1. Booted using linux DEBCONF_PRIORITY=medium. 2. Chose UK English. 3. Surprised to be asked to select a USB keyboard when I don't have one. 4. Chose AT keyboard. 5. Appeared to detect detect CD. 6. Appeared to load installer components. 7. "Detect network" appeared to detect SCSI and ethernet and load kernel modules. 5. When attempting to "Configure the network" I got what appeared to be an error, a red-screen and white rectangle, but no error message just a "Feel free to retry" message. 6. Started a shell. lsmod showed the via-rhine ethernet module loaded but ifconfig shows no interfaces. 7. Returned to main menu. Choosing "Save logs" didn't write anything to floppy, just returned to the main menu. 8. Back to a shell and examined /var/log/syslog. I saw the via-rhine ethernet module being loaded and my two ethernet cards being detected. I saw failed to load errors for ide-mod, ide-probe-mod and ide-floppy, which probably explains why I could not write the logs to a floppy. 9. Rebooted and switched over my ethernet connections so that the DHCP server was on the other network card, it still failed at "Configure the network". 10. Went on to mount a partition, install the base system, and install the kernel. I chose not to install LILO (I did not want it making changes to my existing setup) and rebooted into my existing Debian/stable installation. From there I mounted the new installation, tweaked lilo.conf, ran lilo, and rebooted into Sarge. 11. Unable to login. Rebooted to debian/stable, mounted new installation, tweaked pam.d/common-auth to add "nullok" and rebooted into Sarge. There is still no network. -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux debian2 2.4.22 #1 SMP Mon Aug 25 20:42:25 BST 2003 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C --------------------------------------- Received: (at 220137-close) by bugs.debian.org; 18 Feb 2004 07:08:13 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Feb 17 23:08:13 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1AtLob-0006TQ-00; Tue, 17 Feb 2004 23:08:13 -0800 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1AtLif-0002yA-00; Wed, 18 Feb 2004 02:02:05 -0500 From: Alastair McKinstry <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.43 $ Subject: Bug#220137: fixed in kbd-chooser 0.41 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 02:02:05 -0500 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_02_16 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.0 required=4.0 tests=HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_02_16 X-Spam-Level: Source: kbd-chooser Source-Version: 0.41 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of kbd-chooser, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: kbd-chooser_0.41.dsc to pool/main/k/kbd-chooser/kbd-chooser_0.41.dsc kbd-chooser_0.41.tar.gz to pool/main/k/kbd-chooser/kbd-chooser_0.41.tar.gz kbd-chooser_0.41_i386.udeb to pool/main/k/kbd-chooser/kbd-chooser_0.41_i386.udeb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
