Thanks for the reply, but that still didn't work. And actually it worked less, even. It got to the main menu, and would never install anything. It couldn't seem to contact mirror sites and would skip the files immediately. I couldn't see why it said it was skipping the download/installation because it was too fast.
I did, however, end up getting it to work with the sbm method and the minimal CD. Worked the first try and completed on the first attempt :) It screwed up the GRUB root entry, but hey, that's any easy one to fix.
