Package: installation-reports Debian-installer-version: testing beta2 (got vmlinuz + netboot-initrd on Feb. 6 approx.)
uname -a: didn't check, but has to be vmlinuz from testing/beta2 Date: Feb. 10 Method: PXE boot, IP by dhcp, network install from DE debian mirror (ftp2.de.debian.org i think) Machine: Dual P4 Xeon 2.4GHz server, E7500 board, 82544Ei Gbit ethernet + 82557 FastEthernet net cards Processor: Dual P4 Xeon 2.4GHz Memory: 1GBy Root Device: 2 IDE WD 120GBy drives, root on hda3 Root Size/partition table: 64M boot + 1024M swap + 18G root + 100G home Output of lspci: sorry... could not finish the install... didn't try to get that Base System Installation Checklist: Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [E] Install boot loader: [E] Reboot: [E] [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Comments/Problems: -Preliminary comment: please write down the right boot parameters in the INSTALLATION_HOWTO!! :-) devfs=mount console=tty0 ramdisk_size=8192 root=/dev/ram0 - Once i got the boot params right, Installation went on very nicely (congrats everybody, the installer looks really promissing) up to the point of setting up the boot loader: it kept me asking again and again the same (in which disk/partition to install the boor record). Therefore went to the shell prompt and saw that there was nothing inside /target/boot, aparently no kernel had been installed. Then after insisting got out of the lilo screen and into the main menu, tried with grub: this worked but grub menu was empty, no kernel listed. (then i tried with the daily builds of the unstable d-i, will add thar report below) - Extra comment: i guess the d-i uses a frambuffer... the left column and several of the bottom lines were falling out of the screen. Also the fonts do not get rendered very nicely (blurred in certain columns of the screen). Would it be possible to use a standard text mode console by default? Or is there any fb mode that you can be sure it will be rendered right (not cut, nice fonts) with all the video adapters? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- APPENDIX: test of the daily builds of d-i /unstable Given the above problem, i downloaded and tried both the 9th and 10th of Feb. {vmlinuz,netboot-initrd.gz} files. The problem here was different: i was kicked out into the main menu after "detecting hardware" because there was no HD being detected, kernel was saying: ignoring BAR0-3 of ide Controller **** so there were no ide disks/partitions available for installation.... Something wrong with the daily buit kernel in comparison to the beta2 one? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
